REDISCOVERED
2018

Coal has played a vital role in the creation of Insole Court, a Grade II Listed Victorian Gothic mansion in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales.

However, I felt that the material had been overlooked and lacked representation in the house. It became my goal to create a piece that would rediscover coal and reinterpret it in the beautiful, decorative way that the Victorians used to decorate their homes.

The owner, James Harvey, has also been featured through the emblem on each vase. Each emblem is a manipulation of his initials, J, H.

The vases are earthenware ceramic pieces that have been raku fired with a white raku glaze.
